Understanding Disabilities
Wayside’s ‘SNAP’ Week teaches challenges of special needs.
Potomac’s St. Andrew’s Episcopal School Gym was over-flowing with students, parents and friends cheering the Wayside staff team on as they held their own against the acclaimed wheelchair basketball team The Maryland Ravens.

The latest winners of National Merit Scholarships in Montgomery County Public Schools are include: Elena Waidmann of Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School; Montgomery Blair High School students Isaac Friend, Tony Liang, and Adam Lott; Winston Churchill students Felix Li and Sara Wang; Richard Montgomery High students Samuel Deutsch, Rachel Odessey, and Errin Saunders; Walt Whitman students Alison Foreman and Brandon Shapiro; and Thomas S. Wootton High students Amal Dadi and Austin Feng.
Local Author To Discuss Writing
Potomac Library to host book talk with Susan Keselenko Coll.
Looking for a way to beat the summer heat? On Aug. 8 at 7 p.m., the Potomac Library will be hosting a book talk with local author Susan Keselenko Coll where she will discuss her novels "Beachweek", "Rockville Pike", "karlmarx.com", "Acceptance" and her forthcoming novel "The Stager" which will be released next summer. "Acceptance" was made into a Lifetime movie.

David Lee Jr. was recognized for generous community service at Randolph-Macon Academy. David received a certificate of appreciation from the admission office.
Encouraging Educational Gardens
More schools are developing edible gardens.
Despite a small budget, edible gardens have plotted a rise in the Montgomery County Public Schools curriculum. "You know this committee has had interest in this for several years. As you know, good things are happening," said County Councilmember Valerie Ervin at the council's Education Subcommittee on Monday, July 22.

WES Campers Raise Funds for Pet Shelter
Campers at Summer at WES in Bethesda, have a knack for business, and for philanthropy, as well. In five camp sessions this summer, they will donate hundreds of dollars to House With A Heart senior pet sanctuary, located in Gaithersburg.
Potomac School Notes
Kathryn Haynes graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Indiana University with a Bachelors Degree in psychology. She was named Magna Cum Laude, with high distinction from Hutton Honors College. Haynes graduated from Winston Churchill High School in 2009.

180 alumni plus more than 400 in attendance to celebrate.

KEEN Sports Day gets volunteers from Au Pair of America
“I loved volunteering at the KEEN Sports Day,” said Camila Souza, who works for a Potomac family through Au Pair of America. “It made me realize that I can make a difference just by giving a high five — or by cheering on these young people as they run bases or learn a new dance. I was there to give him support — but he gave me inspiration.”
