Carousel tours begin at 10:30 a.m. (May 1 – Sept. 30). These tours give visitors a closer look at the park’s fully-restored 1921 Dentzel carousel. Find out how it was made, how it works, and about the other amusement park attractions that were built around it. Hear about the civil rights protests and the inspiring story of how the town rallied together to save the carousel.

This “grand zoological fantasy” uses bunraku-style puppets, following the musical suite of Camille Sant-Seans. A young boy, giving up on his piano practice, crawls into bed and falls asleep, clutching his stuffed lion. This is the fifth edition of the Annual DC Dance Challenge and Showcase. Everything is specially designed for dancers that want to have a good time touring, partying, performing, competing and, most of all, dancing. The events are planned to explore the best features of partner dancing in this area. This one-day Dancesport Competition will be held on Sunday, Oct. 14 at Glen Echo Park, in the Spanish Ballroom. This beautifully restored 1933 Mediterranean style Art Deco building is one of the best dance halls in the East Coast area. DC Dance Challenge and Showcase is organized by local members of the USSDC and Forever Dancing LLC, with all competitive dances and levels, plus Salsa and Argentine Tango. Come to dance. A basic dance lesson at 3 p.m. for all levels is followed by dancing to wonderful live music from 3:30-6 p.m. Admission includes the lesson. No partner or prior experience needed.

Tango Brillante DC is happy to offer Argentine Tango lessons followed by a Milonga. Dancers can choose the beginner lesson at 6:30 p.m., the intermediate lesson at 7:15 p.m., or both. Lesson price includes the Milonga that runs from 8:15-11:15 p.m. Rene will DJ with a mix of traditional and mueovo tango. No partner required.

The Folklore Society of Greater Washington presents traditional American contra dancing, including square dances, mixers, waltzes and other couples dances. All dances are taught, no partner necessary. There is a lesson at 7 p.m., followed by dances to live music by Elixir from 7:30-10:30 p.m.
